♒ Aquarius
fixed air · Sun in Aquarius: January 20 – February 18, 2026 (computed from the ephemeris)
Aquarius is deep winter thinking clearly: fixed air, traditionally ruled by Saturn — a fact that surprises anyone taught only the modern keywords, and explains the sign better than they do. Its idealism is structural, not sentimental: principles held the way Saturn holds anything, firmly and at some distance from the crowd's weather. The moderns added Uranus for the other half of the picture — the reformer willing to break a structure precisely because structures matter.
The gift is perspective, the view from outside the room; the cost is the same distance as felt by the people in it. The Sun is in detriment here — the individual counts for less than the pattern. Calves and ankles are the classical body parts.
In the tradition
| Ruler | Saturn (modern co-ruler Uranus) |
| Exalted here | no planet |
| In detriment | Sun (it rules the opposite sign) |
| In fall | no planet |
| Body-map | the calves and ankles |
Every fact above is read from the same dignity tables the chart engine uses — the reference cannot drift from the math.
The three decans
| Decan | Chaldean face | Triplicity ruler |
|---|---|---|
| 0°–10° | Venus | Saturn |
| 10°–20° | Mercury | Mercury |
| 20°–30° | Moon | Venus |
Two systems, honestly both: the Chaldean faces walk the seven classical planets in slowest-to-fastest order continuously through all 36 decans; the triplicity decans hand each third to the ruler of the next sign of the same element.
The axis, and the sign's kin
Aquarius faces Leo across the wheel; the axis is about the one and the many: the heart at the centre against the view from outside the room.
Same element (air triad): Gemini · Libra. Same modality (fixed cross): Taurus · Leo · Scorpio.
