Hungary (Proclamation of the Republic) — birth chart across three traditions

Born: 1989-10-23 (time unknown) · Budapest, Hungary

Data source: Rodden X (no recorded time). Encyclopedic sources give the day and the place, the balcony of the Parliament Building on Kossuth ter, but no minute. Contemporary wire reports describe the proclamation as taking place at midday, which is too coarse to cast angles from and is indistinguishable from the noon fallback, so the time is left unknown.

On 23 October 1989 the acting president Matyas Szuros proclaimed the Republic of Hungary from the balcony of the Parliament Building, ending the People's Republic and founding the present state. The date was chosen deliberately: it is the anniversary of the 1956 uprising, and 23 October is a national holiday for both reasons. Hungary's other national days, 20 August for the state's foundation under Stephen I and 15 March for the 1848 revolution, commemorate far older events and are not the founding of the modern sovereign state. With no minute recorded the chart is cast for noon and its houses are undetermined.
