Sukarno and Hatta read the proclamation at Sukarno's house at 56 Jalan Pegangsaan Timur, Jakarta, on the morning of 17 August 1945, after the planned public reading at Merdeka Square was blocked by Japanese troops. The Netherlands did not recognise sovereignty until 27 December 1949, the rival date, but Indonesia commemorates 17 August. The critical chart caveat is the offset: 10:00 that morning was UTC+9, giving 01:00 UT, so an engine assuming today's UTC+7 will be two hours wrong.
